Sports Site SEO - From the ground up
I just started up what is basically a fool around site with a couple of buddies over at http://hardwayjuice.blogspot.com. It is very simply a Wrestling & MMA website that myself and some of the guys can post our YouTube Videos, news tidbits, etc to. This works right into the targeted sports theme of this website. Baseball SEO and overall Sports SEO aren’t too far off.

Before you tinker with some of the online SEO options I’d recommend starting up a “B” site (many free options exist including wordpress.com and blogger.com) just to see what you like and what you don’t. You also won’t punish your main site if something goes wrong.
On the wrestling site I added in a number of things, including;
Keywording the Site Title
Adding an H1 Header Tag
Adding in the share this plugin
Joined Blog Catalog, setting up a blog community
Joined MyBlogLog, putting the regular widget that includes the right pull out screen
Opening up a Yardbarker Account for article submission
Submitting the latest article to Stumbleupon
Uploading a YouTube Video and including the link with the description
Signing up to the EntreCard System
Posting a modified version of one of the sites articles at Armchairgm and including a link back to the site.
Thoughts: Some of the additions, including the Blog Catalog/My Blog, along with the Entrecard aren’t going to (at least in my estimation) bring me targeted traffic to a pro-wrestling blog. Let’s face it, my target audience is made of primarily of males anywhere from 10 - 35 and most likely doesn’t include many in the Bloggosphere community. Yet links and traffic is a start. More target oriented efforts will be undertaken in the coming week.
The site in question is my first go at using a Blogspot account. I’d have to say that’s it relativley simple to set-up and host. I’m still attmepting to get the hang of Search Engine Optimizing the site and I may have to do some tinkering and research to optimize the site to my liking.
I’ll keep you up to date as to the results of these efforts. I will also begin to add some of these systems to this blog itself.
